An aluminum producer needed help in planning and developing a main centralized maintenance machine shop. At the time, maintenance for the facility was contracted out to regional maintenance shops. The proposed maintenance machine shop, operated by the client, would have to be designed to improve overall efficiency and service.
Investment requirements and gross annual savings for the alternatives were defined and compared. The selected alternative resulted in $210,000 annual savings, with a 5.3-year payback. Also, the in-house maintenance shop in-house provided faster turnaround of maintenance requests.
