Supply chain direction was an issue for a major manufacturer of copper fittings and bronze & iron valves. The company’s leadership wanted to refocus the strategy for its second major product to become customer focused, customer driven, and customer responsive. Huge reductions in work-in-process and downstream inventories, higher quality, much shorter lead times, and true mass customization responsiveness are a product of this initiative. Overhead was eliminated, and a newer technology in the tool-making area created significant savings.
