People Development is all about engaging, coaching and mentoring the teams we work with within our client organizations. This engagement can be formal classroom training, side-by-side on-the-job coaching, or frequently a combination of both settings. We’ve found that it is the people development, and how the workforce is engaged and included through the process, that truly makes the difference in building sustainable solutions. We also know that this can be the most challenging aspect of transformation programs and is the component that often requires the most time. This time refers to the repetitious coaching spent with operators, supervisors and managers to help them understand process changes, effectively deploy new tools, and feel their voice and feedback is appreciated in the work we do together. We work alongside the workforce to not only support their understanding of how to use the structure and tools effectively, but also illuminate how it improves their day-to-day life. Less firefighting and admin work. More proactive and information-driven leadership. As our implementation programs progress with clients, one-on-one coaching is a foundational element to reinforce change, and to transfer ownership with the client workforce that will ultimately carry forward the improvements beyond the conclusion of the engagement.
Our client, a prominent international defense, aerospace, and security company, partnered with Implementation Engineers at one of its facilities during a pivotal transition from a research and development setting to a manufacturing environment. The client encountered significant challenges related to their management operating system, including the absence of actionable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ineffective variance management, and difficulties in identifying and rectifying deviations from desired performance levels. Through a comprehensive project with Implementation Engineers, we introduced a High Performance Management approach that encompassed visual management, variance-to-target management, tailored KPIs for key areas, Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), and Leader Standard Work. These enhancements were complemented by a robust People Development initiative, which involved engaging group workshops and personalized coaching sessions to elevate the client's Management Operating System.
