IX® in Action
Our client, one of the largest flat rolled-steel producers in North America, employs more than 20,000 across more than 50 facilities. During Implementation Design, two major bottlenecks were identified: 1) excessive lead times in various steps in its process, and 2) more than 14,000 material coil processing paths. During IX®, the following improvements were executed:
- Implemented visual system to identify most efficient coil movement path
- Designed a visual warehouse system to track warehouse capacities for coil audit system
- Implemented one-piece flow for coil testing of the mill
- Implemented one-piece flow for the packaging area of the mill
- Developed visual management dashboards on the plant floor
