Supervisor Effectiveness

Supervisor Effectiveness

The supervisor level in most manufacturing organizations is where approximately 80% of the workforce is managed at the point of production execution; yet leadership effectiveness at this level is often neglected and hence misunderstood. Many supervisors are superb operators, and as such they have elevated into a supervisory role. However, the core attributes that make an excellent operator are not entirely what support effective supervisory leadership. Because of this, a core Implementation Engineers offering is training, coaching and mentoring of supervisors. This includes how to equip supervisor leadership with the appropriate structure and tools to be effective leaders, and coaching in daily use how to best deploy these new tools. While some of this training upfront is in a classroom setting, the majority involves repetitious coaching on the shop floor on how to use the management system tools such as Gemba and Leader Standard Work to integrate them into the daily supervisor routine. We work with supervisors hand-in-hand on active supervision, coaching and mentoring and empowerment of their own people to drive better day-to-day consistency and predictability of operations management.

IX® in Action

Implementation Engineers partnered with a prominent manufacturer specializing in critical components for building, factory, and industrial infrastructure operations. Together, we worked on implementing a management operating system to enhance and maintain the project's performance objectives related to throughput, lead-time, and backlog. Throughout the implementation process of the system's structure and tools, we actively involved the workforce, offering training and coaching on leadership behavior, performance management, change management, and the newly introduced tools. At Implementation Engineers, we prioritize a hands-on approach to driving behavioral change. Activities of the High Performance Management workstream included:
