Operator Driven Reliability

Operator Driven Reliability

Operator Driven Reliability is a proactive maintenance strategy that empowers operators to take ownership of equipment reliability within an organization. By involving frontline operational staff in the maintenance process, organizations can drive accountability and ownership of equipment reliability more cross-functionally; an organization in which reliability is no longer a maintenance only concern, which typically yields both cultural and performance benefit. Furthermore, by including operators, companies can leverage their expertise and knowledge of equipment performance to identify and address chronic challenges. There are various degrees to which operator driven reliability can be implemented, but even taking some simple initial steps such as performing Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) or Failure Modes Effects Analysis (FMEA), developing issue escalation guidelines, and conducting operator training can drive meaningful improvements in proactive reliability behaviors, responsiveness to downtime events, and the development of a culture of collaboration and shared accountability.
